Judge’s Bio

Lee Ann Kim

 

Lee Ann Kim is the founding executive director of the San Diego Asian Film Foundation, a nonprofit media arts organization. Lee Ann also worked for nearly 12 years as a news anchor/reporter for KGTV, San Diego’s ABC affiliate, where she earned numerous awards for her journalism.

Lee Ann was recently honored by the San Diego Film Critics Association with the 2011 Kyle Counts Award for her commitment to cinema as well as Director of Excellence from the 2008 International Film Festival Summit. She has served on juries for the Rockefeller Foundation and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Chi-hui Yang

 

Chi-hui Yang is a film programmer, lecturer and writer based in New York. As a guest curator, Yang has presented film and video series at film festivals and events internationally, including the MOMA Documentary Fortnight, Robert Flaherty Film Seminar (“The Age of Migration”), Seattle International Film Festival, Washington D.C. International Film Festival and Barcelona Asian Film Festival.

He has worked as Director and Programmer of the San Francisco International Asian American Film Festival. He is currently the programmer of “Cinema Asian America,” a new On-Demand service offered by Comcast.

Teddy Zee

 

Teddy Zee is a Los Angeles based entertainment executive and producer with over 25 years of experience. As one of the most visible champions of Asians in Hollywood, Zee supervised films that have earned over $2.5 billion in ticket sales as a studio executive at Columbia Pictures and Paramount Pictures, as President of Sony-based Overbrook Films and Fox-based Davis Entertainment, and as an independent producer. Zee is Creative Director of Rambus following his role as Chief Creative Officer of Silicon Valley interactive media company Mozaik.

He was also executive producer/consultant on Quantum Quest, a 3-D, CGI animated film for Taiwan’s Digimax in cooperation with NASA and Jet Propulsion Lab.

Michael Kang

 

Michael Kang is an independent filmmaker currently in recovery from a three-year stint in Hollywood. His film “The Motel” premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and is the recipient of the Humanitas Prize as well as the top jury prizes from numerous festivals.

Michael has been honored with
a N.E.A. Artist’s Residency Grant at The MacDowell Colony, the Geri Ashur Award in screenwriting through the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Overseas Korea Filmmaker Award at the Pusan International Film Festival in 2007 and a fellowship through the ABC / DGA New Talent Television Directing Program.

Abraham Ferrer

 

Abraham Ferrer is the Director of Exhibitions and Festival Co-Director, curating Visual Communications’ (VC) year-round screenings and exhibition programs, including the annual Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival (LAAPFFSince 1988, he has served as the co-director of LAAPFF and currently serves as the Film Festival’s Senior Programmer.

Mr. Ferrer also served as a program consultant for many international film festivals and has written extensively on issues relevant to the development of Asian American cinema. Also a visual artist, Abe has produced many short animation films. He has been a part of VC’s team since 1985.
